Craft Corner
As there are now 3 babies in the family I have dusted off my knitting needles and started to make outfits for the little ones. I have also recently started to learn how to crochet but am at the beginner stage. I hope to be able to swap tips and patterns.
All other crafters are welcome here too, card making, scrap booking, cross stitching etc

More bear talk
I saw a piece on the news last week about Trauma Teddies. Apparently these teddies are being made for the emergency services. Each child gets a teddy who is then their friend and helps them through their traumas.
What a lovely idea! So now there is no excuse not to get your knitting needles out. Just imagine if every knitter just made one each how many teddies would be available to children.
If anyone would like the pattern to make a Trauma Teddy let me know your email address and I will forward it to you.

Knitting Alfresco
I have spent a lovely afternoon in the garden with my knitting and radio in the shade of a parasol. How nice to knit outdoors with the grass under my feet.
I am still making knitted food but I also have on the go a teddy bear with a bag to carry her in that then turns into a bed for her. I will ask Gill to put more photos up for me soon.
What is everyone else making in this lovely weather? Or do some of you put away your needles and bring them out again in the winter?

A Really Useful Lemur
Calling all lemur-lovers - knitted lemurs to be precise, you can now download the pattern at:
http://www.hottershoes.com/wcsstore/ConsumerDirectStorefrontAssetStore/i...
Now this is a really useful lemur. As you will see from the above website, the pattern was created by Alan Dart for The Hotter Comfort Shoe Company to raise money to help children in Madagascar. So far the lemurs have raised £1,800.
Group of knits!
Apparently,on June 12th Bristol is to hold its first World Wide Knit in Public Day, it was started in 2005 by Danielle Landes.

Knitted Fancies
I cant believe how interesting knitting has become since I last picked up my pins years ago. I am fascinated with all the different things that can be knitted these days. I had never heard of kitting with lace and cant wait to have a go.
I am especially fascinated with all the knitted food and am going to have a go at making cupcakes too. I know we were having a laugh about crocheted flowers for a wedding but really these knitted cupcakes are being sold on eBay as wedding favors and they are just so cute!

Help Val?
I am getting on ok with my Pooh Bear but am having trouble with the cast off method used on this. I have always cast off the usual way in the past. I tried doing it as per the instructions but it all came undone. It says to pass each stitch 1 by 1 over the first stitch and thread yarn through last stitch.
What am I doing wrong?
Help?

Here we go with the bear
Well I have finally got my Pooh Bear knitting kit. I successfully bid for it on eBay and won it for £7.99 which is about half the price its being sold for.
I hope I can do him justice as I am not too confident but I will keep you posted on how I am doing.

Please reply to this post with the subject you would like.

Photos onto canvas
Has anyone tried to reproduce digital prints onto canvas? The process is tricky but appears to be straight forward enough to be attempted at home. . (If it was that difficult there wouldn't be so many companies offering this service!). I did buy a book which outlines the procedure but it was American and the chemical used to paint over the print doesn't seem to be available in he UK and the authors e-mail is defunct.

What about a quiz?
I have been wondering if members of the group would like a quiz once in a while. It could be with art and crafts in mind and a couple of general knowledge questions thrown in for good measure.
If you would like a quiz can you please reply to this post? A simple yes or no will be fine, thanks.

Last Minute Egg
For a quick-knit cover for a last minute Easter Chick with small egg, such as Cadbury Creme, all you need is:
Small ball of double-knit wool; felt fragment; black or brown wool or embroidery thread; 4mm knitting needles; embroidery, or other, needle to sew together and add features. Here's what to do:
Cast on 20 stitches and knit 2 rows.
Knit 5 rows, increasing 1 stitch at each end. (30 stitches in all).
Knit 6 rows.
Cast off 7 stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows.(16 stitches).
Knit 2 rows.

What happened to community spirit?
My Canadian social-network friend sent this web link - it's an animation which gives food for thought about modern-day living. It's also great for ideas for keeping the grandchildren amused, making greetings cards, and maybe making animations oneself!
